Did you miss how he refused non-stop and Don wouldn't hear it then got thrown off his flight, came back to his house and attacked him? Don simply wouldn't take "no" for an answer and after killing him he had to take the job to try and throw the heat off him but Teddy knew right off the bat he was responsible and fleeced him as a penalty for Don's death.
