That's not what the theme was about.
The theme is that, by killing you are both killing the potential good and evil in people.
Therefore you should not justify you kills in the name of Good or Justice, because that is done in ignorance and can easily be distorted (brcause you can rationalize any kill to be for good).
If you should kill, it should be done in acknowledgement that you are doing it because of what you value and can sacrifice, and don't pretend it is for the betterment of the world.
The protagonist by the end of the story even practice a more Monstrous version of this philosophy through the law of balance.
He created a Mercenary group that will take ANY job as long as the client is willing to accept them also killing as much innocent lives or loved ones for every kill they make
