After doing a bit more research, the second part can be further simplified to "in base the sea proper." And yeah, blazonry is almost like a programming language. And it can get wild, too; here's the blazon for Richard "the Kingmaker" Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, which I'm dreading having to paint on a 28mm miniature:
>Grand quarterly: first, quarterly i and iv, Beauchamp (gules, a fess or between six cross crosslets of the last); ii and iii, Newburgh (chequy azure and or, a chevron ermine); second, quarterly i and iv, Montagu (argent, three fusils conjoined in fess gules); ii and iii, Monthermer (or, and eagle displayed vert beaked and membered gules); third, Neville (gules, a saltire argent), a label compony argent and azure (Beaufort); fourth, quarterly i and iv, de Clare (or, three chevronels gules); ii and iii, Despenser (subquarterly i and iv, argent; ii and iii, gules, a fret or; over all a bend sable)
