I can remember my father telling me that even as late as the 1970's gameshows like The Price is Right would give away free trips to Colon.
That's how nice it was even up to my lifetime.
I had a chance to buy one of the houses on Colonels' Row at Ft. Davis after the Americans abandoned it. Hard pass.
