One by one, Serbia under the socialist Aleksander Vulin defeated the former states of the Yugoslavic union. First, Bosnia-Herzegovina fell. Then Croatia. Now Slovenia.
The Balkan countries had left NATO out of disillusion that the defensive alliance would keep them safe. It would seem this proved a mistake, because it simply left them vulnerable to Serbia's ambitions.
In another world, NATO would launch an offensive against Serbia and halt its formation of Yugoslavia. But NATO without America and without a nation to step up and lead is toothless.
It is expected that Yugoslavia will align with Russia, who has been quiet in the past few years, building its military might and conserving its strength.
