Must be a super local test and or super new. They've had FTTH in my area for 6-7 years and it started at 2gbps, then 3gbps, then 6gbps, and finally 10gbps.

It has been $300/month the entire time.

Though in this area they're also offering 2100/300mbps over DOCSIS, so there isn't really a point in deploying FTTH for anything less than ~5-10Gbps.
