Why doesn't your country have ultra fast internet?
We are not white or yellow.
Depends what you mean by ultra-fast. Symmetrical 1Gbps connections are effectively ubiquitous and very, very cheap. Anything faster than that hasn't really made significant progress in adoption, there are some 10Gbps services around which are cheap as well, but I think they're only available in a few areas.
I kind of get it though, I've had 1Gbps service for like a decade or something and I don't feel any need for faster internet still, it's like a solved problem.
2.5gbps symmetrical for ~$10

Thinking of switching over to xfinity from att. They just recently finished putting the fiber two weeks ago and its available now. Would go from 80 month to 45 for 1.1 gig.
Really just waiting for more people to cancel so att knows there is competition in the area and they price accordingly.
A third fiber company is also surveying, 3rd option will be available by end of the year.
>>105591210>xfinity>fiberXfinity only offers 1 fiber speed, and it's 10Gbps at $300/month.
The rest of their service speeds are done via DOCSIS, not fiber.
>>105575329>Anything other than glorious 40G AON is trash desuWhy would an ISP use AON over PON for last mile connections?
XGS-PON, 25G-PON, 50G-PON, NG-PON2, etc. There are plenty of currently available PON technologies for 10gbps and beyond.

We have 10/1 GB Internet over FTTH.
>>105591239What fiber technology are they using to deliver that?
It's rare for an ISP to cuck you that hard on upload speeds if they're doing 10gbps down.
I could order 1.6gbit down, 100mbit up FTTP if I wanted it. But my 80/20 VDSL meets my needs and I don't really want to deal with the fuss of letting them installing a cable, signing up for a new 18 month contract, etc.

The average age of a Tasmanian is like 50yo. They don't see why we even need internet at all. Hell, every business has a fax machine still and people treat their mobile phones like landlines. This place is a retirement home for Australians, most anyone of any merit leaves for better opportunities in New Zealand or mainland Australia.
There is a project called Marinus Link that is going through parliament right now, but it will probably be abandoned because the political parties here all want a Australian Rules Football stadium built instead as the non-existent teens want to play football rather than play fortnite.
>>105591267Must be a super local test and or super new. They've had FTTH in my area for 6-7 years and it started at 2gbps, then 3gbps, then 6gbps, and finally 10gbps.
It has been $300/month the entire time.
Though in this area they're also offering 2100/300mbps over DOCSIS, so there isn't really a point in deploying FTTH for anything less than ~5-10Gbps.

Whereas Vietnam doesn't have anywhere near as wide availability of fast dedicated wireline internet at home, and most people use 5G cellular networks which forces Vietnam to have a more robust cell network at the expense of their wireline offerings.
Vietnam is 33rd in the world for fixed broadband speeds, but ranges between 19th and 27th for wireless speeds.
Conversely a country like Switzerland is 9th for fixed broadband speeds, but 30th for wireless speeds.
Basically, Vietnam is poor and most people only have a cell phone connected over 4G/5G cellular but europe is rich and most people have a lot of wifi connected devices and thus they focus on home internet investments.
