I was hoping the new Hincapie team would at least have an interesting kit but it looks kind of unimaginative. Once again I hope for performance's sake they offer some sort of alternate white kit. I cannot imagine riding around all summer in a black kit. Minimalisim in cycling kits often just comes off as quite low budget. Anyone could have made this Hincapie team kit. Honestly if the sponsors allow I think good cycling kit kind of needs to be a bit strange or inventive, different enough from regular clothes, patterns, and color distribution; because it is not regular clothes in fit or form and any attempt to render it familiar is likely to come off as insincere or lazy. As a sort of contrapositional example, some of the recent Lotto kits have been quite good despite being simple color blocking. However, they are so positively received because of their callback to vintage cycling kits, respectful of history without being so derivative; and the color patterning is certainly not something found in regular clothes but is clearly a piece of cycling equipment.
Basically it is so tiresome to see a NEW team, an AMERICAN team, doing things a little DIFFERENT, and have their kit just be black with some silly gold design.
