Compared to just straight up death, yes. William definitely has an obsession with remaining "alive" no matter the cost, so it' makes sense he'd extend it to whoever he had any care for. As an aside, I like to headcanon him blaming Michael for Elizabeth's death. "Your sister only died because no one was watching her and that's only because I had no I could trust, because you proved you couldn't be trusted!" Not just out of anger/grief but also his narcissistic need to maintain control and never be at fault, plus lumping even more guilt onto Mike would make controlling the kid all the easier.
