It was a 14 year awaited sequel to a niche game that was barely marketed. Anyone not dumb could have foreseen it wasn't going to do well.
It is a bit insulting just how little marketing it got from Square though. Feels like it was punishing Nomura for daring to work on a project other than FF and KH or something.
