Yeah. Goku's first adventure with Bulma was based on Path to Power, so he never met Chichi during it, thus, no marriage promise. They did train together under Roshi but I don't think they shared a single line of dialogue (Though I don't think characters talk that much among each other... IIRC they mostly talk with Mapple).
A prediction Baba could've made about Goku had him teaming up with a redhead, which I think was supposed to imply that woman was his girlfriend or wife, and while Mapple was a redhead, she was just one possibility. During the 21st tournament, Suno showed up to cheer on Goku just to leave her as a possibility to end up with him later.
