The founders made this deal because they genuinely thought Moonbreaker would be a huge hit. When it bombed, they tried to rush Subnautica 2 into Early Access to meet the deadline for the bonus (which was going to go to the founders, who then promised to share with the devs). I bet this is why the founders got fired and the game got delayed, not as an intentional move to deny the poor devs their awesome bonus.

But its still bad news on the horizon, because the guy in charge now was also put in charge of Callisto Protocol. This is one of those scenarios where there is no good vs bad, its just stupid vs stupid.
