You're underestimating how sycophantic Bungie fans are. They will always give Bungie another chance expecting a decade's worth of promises to be delivered in an expansion. They could return doing the absolute bare minimum of just removing the stolen textures and throwing in a classic Marathon reference and they would be hailed as gods.
