Gen 5 sort of does.
In Gen 5 Team Plasma begins very public protests, arguing that capturing Pokemon to force them into battle was an abusive practice that needs to stop. These protests were led by N and his retainer Ghetsis. And maybe there was an argument to be had there, some NPCs at least question the morality of the current system of battling. But where N genuinely believes what he's saying, Ghetsis does not. He's a grifter that was using the protests to convince everyone to disarm, so he can keep his Pokemon and install himself as King of New York. And after his grift is exposed, everyone just drops it. After all, Pokemon WANT to battle. It's how they show trust in their trainers...I guess.
Also in Sun Moon when everyone calls out Lusamine for using her children as playthings and experimenting on Pokemon. And she tells you that she doesn't want to see you wagging your finger at her when you have hundreds of Pokemon trapped in the PC Boxes until you can find a use for them.
