At least Bryce was believable as a ruthless corpo bitch. ScarJo as a mercenary? Cmon bro.
Even that Indy replacement hag in the last movie was more believable as a hustler and scam artist. Coulda gone that route.
The mercenary shit doesn’t even pay off because they lose the guns instantly and are just running around like morons.
It’s amazing to compare the character introductions in JP with this. Even the sequel characters are so much better at creating some drama for them, some motivation. ScarJo wants money. She has a scene and a half about maybe giving that up for the good of the world with McGuffin dino blood.
Sad paleontologist is a non entity really. They put the most character into the family drama that’s just swept up in this shit by accident. Of which we learn a mexican’s girl has a stoner boyfriend who slightly redeems himself. Plot armor kid is “wise beyond her years”. Not exactly new to JP but compare this movie with the first one for the sibling dynamics and it’s fucking night and day. Again.
SCREENWRITING 101. Characters we care about. Stakes.
Even the equivalent to a mercenary redshirt character in JP is given scenes that are iconic now. Clever girl, etc. Even the death of nothing characters like the lawyer and Nedry are given characterization. HOW IS IT SO FUCKING HARD? These are notes you’d give a student film project.
