What actually happens in the ORAS arc:
>Ruby is paired with Mega Latios
>Emerald is paired with Mega Latias
>Sapphire becomes disabled, ends up in a fucking wormhole, just stands in front of a space ship for a whole day, then gets KOed in the ocean
>Ruby and Sapphire are separated and have zero communication for 99% of the story, prolonging a very forced conflict that could've resolved itself much sooner if they weren't separated
>Said conflict is later resolved within half a day
>Ruby bonds with and mega evolves Latios in 5 seconds, then finds Diancie in some fucking cave and befriends it too because it must be shilled, also Ruby sort of bonds with Rayquaza 5 seconds before Sapphire shows up and truly bonds with it, just so Ruby technically did it first so he can be put on record as some Legendary taming chad
>Emerald is just.... there, mostly interacting with Ruby and Sapphire separately but not as a pair (completely wasting all this "trio"'s comedic potential, let alone symbolism)

It sounds like a joke when put that way but that's literally what happens. The story twists itself into complete knots in its attempts to get rid of Sapphire and focus on the boys, even if it makes no sense and retcons a lot of Kusaka's own existing groundwork for her character just like the RS arc's ending did. It makes no sense for Kusaka to miss these obvious opportunities or willingly nuke his own characters, which is why I suspect suit meddling.
