I think ME2's roster is bloated desu, ME1's squad was perfectly balanced. Each member had a purpose/niche in both gameplay and story. 2 has a lot redundant characters, or just characters I straight up don't care about. A lot of them have no stakes in the story or are straight up not relevant to the story, hence getting abandoned in ME3. For example Samara has zero logical reason to join you, and she's a biotic so she's useless on Insanity anyway. Let's be honest we usually take our two favorites all the time but in 1 I actually rotated between basically everyone except Kaidan.
