The Comanche had a way with sand.
They would stake their victims out in the 118 degree sun with wet rawhide in the hot sand over antbeds with their eyelids cut off. Then they would watch them over several days, betting on whether the ants would eat through their eyeballs to their brains before the drying and shrinking rawhide pulled them apart.
