Tariffs are a good thing. Every nation should prioritize its own people. Nations must be self-sufficient on necessary industries to insure self-preservation. Trade balance on consumer and luxury goods should be maintained to avoid becoming subservient to any other nation. Nations with incompatible ethics should be disincentivized in trade. Trade with nations who have a lower standard of living for their people undercuts the standard of living for your people; a tariff to level that cost is necessary. Tariffs are also naturally paired with border defense and insuring national sovereignty.
