Ninjas have never been effeminate in canon. They are masculine men in the source material. They were only effeminate in the Shitrata fanfic.

BTW, I also saw Murata's son wearing an extremely fruity ass outfit, so I assume this is due to Shitrata's influence considering what he did to the ninjas.
