I don't disagree with all that specifically, of course it's culturally inspired and things like visible fighting spirits and killing intent comes through.
It's specifically stuff like
>imagery in your third eye, which is overlaid on top of reality
>you're not seeing a depiction that's meant to be real, you're seeing the impression the character is meant to exude
Because it comes off as though anime is some punched up version of an actual reality where everyones swords are normal and they're only leaping a few feet into the air at most.
It's that cartoons require less rules of reality to be applied to still be convincing. It's fine if everyone is swinging giant swords when they don't look too much like people. It's like the uncanney valley but the opposite, by making them look less like real humans, you can accept them doing more crazy, wild things.
This is part of why live action anime usually looks weird. You give a a guy a big cardboard cosplay sword and tell him to swing it and it suddenly looks less convincing than when a fake, cartoon man swings it.
