No, we genuinely do spend less money on clothing. The figures I quoted are real. And this isn't social progress. We just culturally moved from spending on clothing that we don't need to going into debt to drive an $80k truck that we don't need. Clothing being expensive doesn't change its nature as a consumer product; we can consume products that are extremely expensive.

S/S button down shirts are superior to polos, but camp collars frame the face better than a normal shirt collar here. Since these aren't being worn with layers the collar has to do more heavy lifting. It's surprising that these haven't been mentioned in the thread yet- there are way more casual summer shirt styles than polo/tshirt.
