There are many in the west that have VERY rigid views of gender on both sides of the argument.
Literally picrel, not even counting the ones the pic doesn't touch on.
So dumb too because for decades we had a similar view as Japan over here. "Yeah in reality, this person would probably be trans, but this is anime, and they were changed by magic, so its actually a girl now." or "This person is beyond gender. Thats not possible IRL, but its anime, and I can suspend my disbelief for the fictional world I'm enjoying."
Now its not possible. Any time some weird gender play thats meant to just be fun or explore some themes comes up, people in the west can no longer see that line between fiction and reality.
It sucks because the argument they make takes 0 thought, so they don't even have to try because they just pretend fiction and reality are interchangeable.
Man I'm glad soul eater airred before the low IQ knuckle draggers and shonensuckers found out what anime is.
