I don't think people could become as good as these people obviously were without a dedicated stoneworking class or guild that people were born into and raised in.
Picrel is the shist disc or disc of sabu. Many of the alternative history videos will infer that it was used in some type of machinery (which is ridiculous because it's carved from siltstone which is incredibly brittle). Still, I like those videos not because they jump to the wrong conclusion, but because of the questions they ask along the way.
