What depth did Makima have, anyway? We know nothing about her past. Nothing about her goals, nothing about her likes and dislikes, nothing about what's going on inside her head, until the very last chapters.
She was just a cool, manipulative mystery lady/antagonist.
People nowadays seem to think that we need everything spelled out about a character within the first 2 chapters or "they have no depth".
