What's wild to me is that interviews with GGG show they still have this cowboy attitude of

Like a game that feels dangerous and unpredictable is based, but it's actually really hard to make a game feel like that, you need to walk a precise tightrope. Being airheads and just slapping random numbers on stuff just results in the egregious fuckup that was release.

Remember white mobs being nerfed by 3.5x in the middle of season 2? Remember volatiles having a bug that made them deal double damage and nobody knew it until late season 2? Remember random white mob projectiles doing more damage than telegraphed boss slams? remember jonathan saying "what about the warrior?" it's because they're pinheads. They're actually just clueless. they dont look at their numbers, they dont playtest from level 1 until the final difficulty of pinnacle bosses. so the only people on the planet who actually know what's going on in their game are the players. they have no idea!
