And now something I only put together thanks to a last detail this video gave me.

Specifically the pier area Omori and Mari wander around being called the Forgotten Pier. I'd seen that name mentioned in a few places like the language files.
The dreamworld_extras_blackspace language file is dedicated to dialogue tied to Headspace Characters talking about Black Space. Like Kite Kid mentioning seeing a Dark Void in the sky, the Sprout Mole Teacher's lecture on the Deep Pit, or Mina's Kid talking about the Shadowy Chasm. But there's also dev text referring to an unused scenario or two, like Captain Spaceboy mentioning how he sometimes stumbles on a Black Hole when flying too far into the universe.
The other unused scenario is this:
>#FORGOTTEN PIER: Inhabitants from the FORGOTTEN PIER are speaking from another realm which they call BLACK HOLE, DARK VOID, DEEP PIT, SHADOWY CHASM, or ABYSS. They escape for a bit, but it will always pull them back.
>#Common SOMETHINGs are Dream World NPCs that have stayed in BLACK SPACE for a long time.
>LOST SOUL: When I was young, my mother told me to beware of a place called the SHADOWY CHASM, but I didn't listen... Now I'm stuck here forever...
>LOST SOUL: I can linger for a while, but...it will always pull me back...
>LOST SOUL: I used to have a friend... but the longer we stayed here, he started to... turn into something else... Oh, how I miss my friend...
In this Forgotten Pier area you can see shadow people walking around in this area. You can't talk to them, so this above dialogue is completely unused. I wonder if this indicates that Forgotten Pier was going to be a little bigger than it is now, or if the above co-existed with what we have now before they cut it. It was probably cut early on into the idea since only 3 lines were written despite the other Black Space names being mentioned. I imagine they wanted to make the moment more focused on Omori and Mari, and maybe more mysterious.
