I remember my parents and grandparents having one of these pic related and another one that looked like a cheap plastic traffic pointer I can't seem to find on google. You could get them for like 99 cents at any local dollar store and they lasted a real long time. At worst only needed a new bulb.

My founded memories is seeing ones like pic related dirty and covered in car oil because it was used to fix cars and other stuff a lot.
