Repostan a greentext of mine from /md/:
>be Anon
>be in third grade
>your teacher is an older model worker drone, WD-41133, though she prefers being called Alice for reasons you only realize years later after taking that course in Leetspeak
>compared to most any other drone you see, Ms. Alice has unusually high initiative and emotional intelligence as a result of having to deal with rambunctious children
>she genuinely enjoys some lessons, especially art and ones about science and nature
>she's very kind to everyone
>her accent makes you feel funny on top of all that
>one day you stay behind after class to confess to Ms. Alice that you have a crush on her and you want to marry her when you grow up
>she tells you she's flattered, but suggests you find a human girl your age
>your heart sinks, but you swallow it and move on
>the next day, news about some disaster that struck Earth hits
>in panic, drones are getting recalled left and right
>Ms. Alice is one of them, much to your class's sadness and confusion
>fast forward ~twenty years
>be hired to help conduct experiments vital for the survival of mankind on some desolate mining colony
>go down to the facility, deep beneath an old summer camp
>see your soon to be coworkers, drones milling about, drones being experimented on, drones being interviewed, etc.
>pass by one test subject being interviewed
>realize how familiar that test subject sounds
>turn to face her
>she's staring back at you
>you can't forget those amber eyes
>"... Anon?" she asks
>"... Ms. Alice?"
>over the protests of the scientist interviewing her, she scampers across the table on all fours like an animal and tackleglomps you
>you hug her back
>"Finally got a wig like I always joked 'bout gittin'..."
>her laugh is soft and tired now, but it's even warmer than it was before she was sapient
