The writers (at least the ones for the first series) straight up said they never played the games, I dunno if this changed over time but that was a common criticism back then, Netflix apparently choose not to renew the show after the season that came out this year and that's fine, it was shit, if they disliked the source material so badly all they needed to do was create their own IP and animate it on some "anime" wannabe art style and you'll get pretty much the exact same show aside from some names, half of the characters in the show were either OCs or changed so drastically from the source material that they might as well be
