Now I'm remembering that they never brought back the THOON illithids

Anyone ever done anything with Illithids of Thoon? Conceptually the idea of crazy muscular mind flayers devoted to an eldritch concept who do gigeresque technological stuff with the dead bodies of humans feels like something that should be more relevant, but they've only appeared in the one 3.5 book
