The only weird symbol is Ы, also it's a phonem the westerners can't even comprehend.

On the other hand Russian has a phonetic spelling and an alphabet that actually represents the language. No nonsense like

Russian has none of that.

If you look at Czech or Polish their writing looks bizarre and unreadable, it's not because of the language is weird, it's because they are trying to spell the slavic phonems with latin letters, and the slavs just have more phonems.
