You will obviously have much better chances/more options if you are into sports and athletics yourself. Not just because of the physique and aesthetics/lifestyle match but because you are more likely to meet them through gym and sports events etc. have more in common

But yes some girls do like nerdy guys even the athletic ones. When I was a skinnyfat nerd who stopped doing sports (I never really got back into it after highschool) I still went out with and slept over with some girls who were fit and did gym/sports (one was a model even... we knew each other for a long time though, since my sporty days)
I would say for dating though it's best not to be shallow and see how well you vibe together and personality/life match. My gf is chubby but I'm much more attracted to her than any fit girl I dated previously. Maybe adjust your priorities unless you're just looking to smash then godspeed
