My dad beat me as a kid and it just confused me.
Solved no problems. Taught me nothing.
If your teenage son wants to fist fight you then you were a worthless father.
And yes, it's using physical force to discipline but it's also using intelligence to teach. A kid will quite literally go psychotic if they're forced to sit and do nothing. Hitting them or causing physical pain pales in comparison to denying them attention.
You just tell em they can get up and leave when they calm down. You sit there with them to help them realize that there's a way out of the situation via emotional connection and communication. You're calm, and they can't scream their way out, so eventually they try talking. To themselves first then to you.
It's child psych 101.
Look at how insane adults go when you ignore them.
If you have to hit a kid then you're as dumb as the kid. Pick em up and put em somewhere boring for 90 seconds
