It makes a little more sense if you assume the cast HAS talked about their past together before, because some of them have been around long enough that everyone who heard it (except Kinger) abstracted. If one character joins every, say, three yerars, and one character abstracts every three years, then that means the whole cast rotates every eighteen years or so. If the simulation has been running since the 90s or 2000s, then that means Kinger's the only one who's been around from the start.
That scene could've been done better though, if some of them showed familiarity with the others' pasts already, and went something like "Oh, you never told me that part" or "Wait, start from the beginning; Pomni's not heard this one." Really easy little writing thing that could've enhanced the show a lot
