i genuinely think a lot of them are nerds who don't listen to enough pop songs to understand simple lyrical flows. they mostly listen to japanese music and english covers of japanese music, so their experience comes from english cover writers stretching the syllables and stilted word choices to fit a line/rhythm. It's a shame with birdbrain, because I actually think the melody itself is catchy, but then I read the lyrics are saying shit like "Ten-time unwitting champion of being spurned" and "number one in life that's been deferred" and I just lose interest. There's got to be a more catchy way to phrase these ideas while still being in rhythm, because I can't find myself wanting to sing along to this because the lines read so weirdly.
