Many of the women in New Cappenna wore 1920's masculine clothing with implied suspenders as underwear. The less formal colors red and green were the only colors to show suspenders. The communication error comes from American having different words for suspenders and garter belts the art director thought they were being clear they only want pants suspenders. The German was obviously more familiar with British English so they used garter belts called "suspenders" in Britain instead of pants suspenders called "braces" in Britain.
