This is the most soulful art on a card in a great many years. It feels like art that wouldve been on a card in the 90s or early 00s.

I can attack with bloodghasts 5+ times over the course of a game without paying a single point of mana
Bloodghast is a free spell

Just to attack 5+ times with timeline cullers will probably cost 6+ mana over multiple warps + hardcast. Every time you warp it and it doesn't get blocked or sacrificed, its going to the fucking exile zone where it costs 2 mana. Bloodghast might as well be exiled too if I had to pay BB to cast it instead of discarding/milling it

Sunday Pauper 13.07.2025

Went 2-2-0 and finished 8th place. Last one was bye.

Round One vs Mono U Terror
Lost 0-2
Game one started with oppo spell piercing my expedition map. The I assembled tron late and boomerang took care of what little board I got. The cascading triggers all resolved to the support artifacts, but couldn't filter my way to any stable board pressence.
Sideboard:
- 2 Fiery Cannonade
- 2 Volcainc Spite
- 1 Firebolt
+4 Red Elemental Blast
+1 Pyroblast

Game two was more competitive. Didn't drew any of the sideboards. Lost this game due to bad plays on my part. After resolving a Boarding Party I didn't pressure enough and fumbled one block. He managed to drew enough bounce to get in with his snakes.

Round 2 vs Boggles
Lost 0-2 Game one muliganed 6. Had tron, but no payoff came around. I didnt have any way to interact with his board mainboard. After the boggle passed 2 toughness, no boardwipe of mine can interact with it. Sideboard

3 Volcainc Spite
1 Firebolt

2 Elecktrickery
2 Stone Rain

Sideboarded land hate, and more boardwipes. Had to mulligan to 4, due to 1 or 0 land hands. The boggle was assembled fast. As the theme goes I assembled tron early, but didn't manage to claw my way back into the game.

if I gain control of a warped permanent and it exiles at eot to the warp effect, who gets to cast it from the exile? the last controller (me) or the original caster? my intuition says the caster because doesn't it make this delayed trigger which the caster controls no matter who has it. I couldn't find the rules if they are even up yet

Round 3 vs Red Tron
Game one had the godhand, resolved Colossus. Oppo didn't have enough luck and bricked even with filtering.

Sideboard:
- 2 Volcanic Spite
- 2 Fiery Cannonade
+ 2 Stone Rain
+ 2 Gorilla Shaman

Game two was a lot more competitive. Even though I managed to assemble tron first, he was close second. I filtered 2 Oliphaunt and held on to an Urza Tower in my hand, expecting land hate... since I'm also packing land hate. He resolved an Ulamog's Crusher, a Molten Rain targeting the Urza Tower on the battlefield, and a Gorilla Shaman to kill my Prophetic Prism. I lost the tron and my red sources at that point, but managed to trade down my boardstate, until he had a lone Gorilla Shaman. Replaying my Tower I resolved another Colossus which cascaded into an Oliphaunt. A few turns later the game ended since my Opponent didn't manage to draw into any outs.

Round 4 Bye

Conclusion: The deck is swingy, and not consistent. The 3 prophetic prism, 4 expedition maps and 4 candy trails aren't nearly enough to smooth out my draws. I feel that going to a more control oriented game won't be the right decision. I don't believe Red in Pauper is equipped to handle neither big, evasive or wide boardstates. Going with more Fireball effects will fall victim to the regular Blats, Counterspells and Pierces in the format. I believe the answer is either more utility creatures ala -Filigree Familiar, Voidpouncer or something else.

we already have like 5 variants of that same bullshit

A 2 mana cori steel cutter is already better than this 3 mana retard soldier
a 1/1 prowess token that has a +1/+1 trample haste equipment on it is vastly better than 2x 1/1 tokens
an equipment that doesn't die to go for the throat is better than a 2/4 body

You can't even sequence a second spell on 3 mana without plot or mox jasper, while cutter just went opt immediately

Oh. I don't mind. I want to go into MTG, like I imagine wargamers do. Just find your favourite niche, and don't sweat about winning that much. That's why I'm playing Pauper.
> Decks are cheap
> Powerlevel is kinda low
> With FIRE, old uncommons and rares will get downshifted. So I can play cards with older art.

Green Tron is great! Especially against affiniggers and aggrochads. But yeah, green doesn't have any tools to deal with it. Best case I can imagine is sideboarding Faerie Macabre, to exile the tides from the graveyard on the Archeomancer trigger.

Am I crazy, or was there another version of this art with stockings and garter belts? I remember there being a twitter post or something by the artist saying that his original version was too sexy so they made him tone it down, but I can't find any record of it anywhere. Was it memory holed? Mandela effect? Or am I just losing my mind?

Parallax tide is not fun. Removing the board just lets the other guy know the game is over and they usually resign because you just win next turn. The suffering is over swiftly and that is not good. Plus it's four mana.

Keeping him tapped out for 40 turns while they sit there with all his creatures tapped still gives him hope he might one day get past the stasis and attacking. Thus they remain in the game enduring the suffering with the hope of being able to turn cardboard when it is unlikely they'll ever be able to. All just for 2 mana and the upkeep cost which can be payed for with combo or by simply bouncing it with chains on the end step so I can untap while my opponent must again sit there and wait for an opportunity that won't come in the next 20 turns.

Stasis is far superior to Meme tide + stifle.

I'd obviously start with some good net decks because they're cheap but I want to at least be able to think of ways to counter or out-perform the meta decks.
And I think pauper has a smaller card list than modern so that might be the way to go.
I like the idea of modern but I can't shell out $1000 for a deck. Best I can do is $150 on my mono green stompy and apparently it's not even that competitive.

Yes, that's the entire idea.
And formats without fetchlands would still run them in decks
That's how you blunt aggro without just raising the starting life total in every format

Aggro has long had an artificial leg up because of damage from landbases. Standard is almost as bad as eternal formats with fetch+shocks, because you can even build a 5 color deck with Starting Town + Thran Portal + Painlands, and at least the non-portal ones are everywhere
ETBT lands are such a handicap and only triomes and surveil lands are any good. The value of "gain 2 life" should be on par with "surveil 1" or having 3 types + cycling 3 or 2 types + cycling 2, like previous duals.

If people could make control decks that started with 28+ life thanks to heal lands + adventurer's inn + radiant fountain, aggro wouldn't prey on them like it does now where people have lists with 12-15 starting life

Premodern is becoming more and more popular each day because people are getting tired of getting JotC slop like Aetherdrift, Final Fantasy and what is it now, oh right, more sci-fi shit with Edge of Eternities getting shoved down their throats and would rather play a game that's fun and balanced. Hence why they are resorting to premodern, because despite being unofficial, it's better than any other current format out there.

They themselves stated it. They thought the type wouldn't work for what they were trying to do (3 or so well-defined alien factions).
Doctor Who has a billion million aliens so it makes sense to lump them under one umbrella. In EoE that isn't the case, each alien is its own defined archetype

My theory is that they only did it for creatures they believed/knew NEEDED to be recognized as aliens, as least for Doctor Who. They probably made the Unfinity creatures aliens because they knew their creature types didn't matter. Giving the aliens the alien creature type in eoe restricts the type of art and non-standard sets they can be printed in. For example, if any of the insects see play in older formats and WotC decides they wanna reprint some, they'll be forced to give it the Eumidian/eoe aesthetic instead of giving it any new art with the Kraul or the Nantuko like how they've changed the artwork for other famous cards.

That's also true. To put it another way, if they only did a UB thing with Doctor Who-themed cards attached to a space-themed set like what they did with Ikoria and the Kaijus, none of those creatures would've been aliens. They probably only did it either because of feedback/stipulations from whoever they negotiated with or because they thought it would've been important for players to know certain creatures were aliens.

Many of the women in New Cappenna wore 1920's masculine clothing with implied suspenders as underwear. The less formal colors red and green were the only colors to show suspenders. The communication error comes from American having different words for suspenders and garter belts the art director thought they were being clear they only want pants suspenders. The German was obviously more familiar with British English so they used garter belts called "suspenders" in Britain instead of pants suspenders called "braces" in Britain.

I'm guessing the real motivation for the set was competing with the star wars cardgame that came out tho.

It's sci-fi. It's not the exact same visuals but it's still the Antz/Bug's Life, suspiciously similiar timing thing, that Disney and DreamWorks used to do. Now it's just WotC and Disney and with cards.

WotC must've not liked Lorcana stepping on MTG's turf.

>fetchlands
The problem is not the fetchlands but the excess of typed dual lands and that there have been quite a few releases of typed dual lands which when used in conjuction with the fetchlands, you can use them to fix mana type easily. But then again, just like with Abuelo's Awakening as a scapegoat for omniscience, it must be the the fetchlands and not the real problem, typed dual lands.

If it was just basic lands as is the case in the standard sets which they show up, then you would be limited to fetching only one color. It would take you multiple fetch lands to truly fix your colors. In which case they're not much different than a fast-land or one of the conditional tap lands.

Without the mana system, there would be no mtg. Moreover, you'd just have Yugioh instead where it's all OTK. Moreover, it's best to avoid the examples of slopstone and those other games. Finally the land mana system provides an additional consideration in deck building not present in the "auto-mana" games where you get the mana for free just because turns have passed because you must consider how you are going to meet the cost requirements for your cards.

Prior to FIRE, the lands for mana system and after the alpha/beta/revised/unlimited bans kept the game going longer because someone couldn't just OTK and even in the worst cases still had to swing for 4-5 turns to win giving the other player time to play an answer or dig out an answer out of their deck to keep the game going.

The only people complaining about lands for mana are auto-mana slop zoomers who want their two turn dopamine rush like they got from Pokemon and who FIRE is designed for.

So what if you need blue? It comes with it's own auto-sac to let you get it to leave the battlefield even if you don't draw the phasing. You get to net two cards from it in any blue deck without running anything else for it while getting to stun a creature you don't want to attack.

Wellsping can't be phased either. Has to be sac'd via another card or destroyed. Which means 8 cards to get the full use of it which is retarded and hence you can't just put it into any deck. You might as well put in a different draw source or dig available to the colors you're running which is generally better than wellspring because they'll either draw more cards or do something other than just sit there until someone politely wipes the board for you. You'd really have to build a deck around wellspring that lets you sac artifacts in order to get full use.

The Jund decks that run wellspring typically have some sac mechanic to fill the graveyard for goyf. That being said, it's not really ran in those either because there are more efficient cards for the same purpose.

The best part about CHADdern is how all the third world browns won't even admit their inferiority. It reminds you that browns will latch on to anything to hate without even knowing why they hate anything. They simply just hate and then pretend their deficiencies and inability to afford rares somehow makes them superior to the superior CHADdern player. Even worse that they like to pretend their fake format is real like the Coomander and nostalgia formats like to pretend.

sorry I'm not brazilian. Also even the cheapest deck you've shown is still twice as much as a regular pauper deck
plus being priced out of several decks is bad. Just because you can run a worse version without the expensive staple it doesn't make it good. That's like saying modern is budget because you can play basics instead of fetches

That's about the price of a pauper deck which is somewhere between $50 to $90. Moreover as said before, Premodern does not have the problem of card rotation where you have to buy more powercrept FIRE cards to keep up with the FIRE meta. In the long run, you will probably end up spending as much if not more on the pauper decks that you would a premodern deck.
>I'm not brazilian
You don't have to be. You can play premodern in a large variety of countries and on mtgo. For example there are a few leagues and playgroups in Sweden, Italy, and the US.

the thing is that your figure is straight up false. If I look up BW control on mtgtop8 they're mostly at around the $100 margin, with a lot actually being around 200. And it honestly is very disingenuous for you to think that maybe buying 2-3 playsets of commons every half an year is gonna set someone back as much as the average 200$ for a premodern deck.
I'm not even getting into the fact that a lot of popular decks are in the 1k range, which is just madness for a literally dead format.
Look, I get that you've probably sunk a really decent amount of money and time in your format and you probably feel bad over how much $ you needed just to compete at a 9 person locals, but no one with half a brain is gonna get into premodern outside of online for very obvious reasons

> mostly at around the $100 margin
Does not change the fact that you can build such decks for a lower cost. Moreover, much of the cost to this being at around $100 is due to price increases from very recent price increases in some old cards that did not get reprints yet. As said before, there is especially price inflation on old cards with the old border along with mtgtop8 and perhaps even yourself not accounting for the goldbordered cards which are allowed in many groups which bring down the cost of playing further.

Morever, you do not have to play exactly a deck which would cost $200 if you only want to spend $100 on a deck. If you have some format knowledge you can bring the price down a little more.
>And it honestly is very disingenuous for you to think that maybe buying 2-3 playsets of commons every half an year is gonna set someone back as much as the average 200$ for a premodern deck.
And this is ignoring how much some new commons and uncommons can cost. Especially as you might have to buy a couple boxes to get all the commons/uncommons from a new set for still many of those to be unplayable in the pauper meta. If you're buying playsets of the singles you need, depending on the cards, you might be spending as much as $5 per single to as much as $20 total to replace a playset of older cards with the improved newer card. If you spent $50 initially, that's now $70 on the deck. Do it again and that's as much as $90 on a deck. With new FIRE releases at a rate of 5-6 releases per year, this could be as much as $50-$100 per year just to update a singel a with singles. Going the booster box route it may be anywhere between $20-$100 per deck to update the deck. You've spent as much if not more than on that single deck than you did on a single premodern deck which does not generally need to be updated.
>it honestly is very disingenuous
You're being just as disengenuous as you are accusing me of being.

If you do it before shuffling, it doesn't matter. Sufficient shuffling will randomize the deck. You have to shuffle the deck to the point where a judge is satisfied in a tournament format or other players are satisfied in non-tournament so it really doesn't make a difference. The effects of mana weaving are gone after a good shuffle.

>The only people complaining about lands for mana are auto-mana slop zoomers
A lot of hardcore gamers hate it because they hate variance in general. Iโ€™ve never understood the obsession they have with variance, especially when it comes to something as purposely-random as a card game. If something has too much variance then it can feel like you have little autonomy because your success can feel more like itโ€™s based on luck than any expression of skill, but if something has too little variance, then it feels like youโ€™re just demonstrating how well you can perform a set of tasks rather than how well you can outwit your opponent, which makes people like me feel like we have less autonomy. Part of the fun of games is the combination of skill-expression and playing around things you canโ€™t perfectly predict. Why would someone want to break that balance?

If your format has the concept of a "budget deck" your format is comically expensive and you are just gaslighting naive retards into joining so you can farm them with your strictly superior and more money intensive decks, a 100 "budget" deck is almost always slang for "Spend 100 bucks on a dogshit deck that cannot be upgraded into a real deck" or, in the best case scenario "Spend 100 bucks into a worse version of a good deck so you can get your skull caved in except when you get lucky".

Along with that most of the premodern decks are 250$+ put into worthless cards, and "Muh proxies" isn't a really good argument because most people don't like them, it looks bad, and also most stores will still demand shit like gold bordered cards (even more worthless) as "proxies" or you'll say "just use chinaman proxies" without noting all the disadvantages that has, like getting store banned.

I'd even note that a lot of the actually good decks have shit like x4 Cradle, wastelands and a shitton of your tournaments also demand print specific because once more, it isn't a sanctioned format with hard set rules and said printings are all on the inherent reserved list.

Oh and btw, the average pauper deck is now in the 50 to 80$ range buying at the comically overpriced big name shops like TCGPlayer and Starcity of david with any expensive card being a perenial multi format staple (lotus petal, hydro/pyro variants) most of the time and the only real barrier of entry is skill, because in mtgo you can very easily pay your renting and then buy your deck and keep printing $$.

Sorry, not sorry if you are going to shill your format, which other than not being very competitive and having one big issue for long term high intensity play (closed format, which is also the inverse for long term low intensity play) isn't super bad, at least be fucking honest Mr. "I am so super vvhite and aryan but I'll behave like my own racist caricature of a scheming brown jew".

Disproven by the fact that you have to spend At least $20 per year if going for singles just to keep up with the power creep. It's even more expensive if you're buying boxes. Getting a deck now for $50 and then keeping up with constant changes in meta from the new FIRE cards being popped out in 5-6 sets per year will lead to a pauper deck over a period of a few years costing. Playing pauper in the long term is more expensive than a fixed format such as premodern.

Rest in piece and leyline can stop it. But white is not played that much compared to the other color combos and leyline isn't commonly ran in standard. Sure you lose delirium for a turn for one of the one-off pops like soul-guide and you can play around it. But you can quickly out pace ghost vacuum or cauldron. Either way the deck has artifact/enchant hate in the side. Win round 1 aggroing out. Go into round 2 and if opponent kills deck with lucky draw, you side in the hate, get rid of it round 3 then aggro out to win round 3.

Quite a few of the uncommon's/commons put many of the rares of the past to shame. Often what passed for a rare 15-20 years ago is now what you see in commons.
>Even the mouse
And there's one of the examples of it.

23 of those 52 are 6 cards all from pre-fire era, 25 if we count vault of whispers too.

Yeah man I am putting 20 copies of sneaky snacker on my deck, you are truly a mastermind. Nothing beats 20 sneaky snacker.dek!
And don't get me started on the most povverfvl deck in pauper, 20 nyx born hydra, 20 sneaky snacker, 20 chryssy, 20 refurbished familiars, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats this VBER deck.
Literally it cannot be beaten, it is just impossible, I walk into the store with my overpowered fireslop and windmill slam 80 cards of them bad boyos, WHIP out dat dere WALLET ($24) and what happens?
I fucking WIN that's what happens.

I agree fomo and the other ones are pretty good and was pretty amazed fomo didn't really see play anywhere when it was released. maybe it's just shellshock of rdw and izzet prowess being so overpowering
and I guess the artifact grave haters are fragile BUT dimir is way up there and has good interaction like affliction against it, no?

Dimir is the strongest deck there just because it can aggro and draw at the same time. If you don't have an answer, you're going to draw it anyways just from turning paper sideways.

Its unironically one of Dimir Midrange's bad matchups. The hasty beaters coming out of Break Out make sure Kaito doesnt do anything, and it cant out race its damage. The only way to effevtively beat it as UB Midrange is to make sure you have consecutive Floodpits Drowner and or removal. The deck fucking folds to Mono White and Golgari control decks though. Put something like Beza, Sentinel of the Nameless City or Archfiend of the Dross in front of it and it would stop in its tracks

Colorless is NOT a color.
If you only control meteor crater you add no mana as you cannot chose a color of a permanent you own, since you only own a colorless permanent.

>>96091139
That is a massive pauper staple right there anon, put some respect on it's name.
That's a 35c card AT LEAST. And if it gets standard play? Well, well, well, now you are looking at STONKS! $1 whole dollar. You know what you can buy yourself with a whole ass dollar?
One cryogen relic, that's what!

Hey. I don't even play premodern. I haven't spent money in years and I don't care about making money on MTGO. Never even touched it. I only play brews on cockatrice at this point. I only brought up Arena as an example of something someone could go to for FTP. I.e. one where you don't have to spend any money nor earn any money from using. Though honestly, just like MTGO, it's better to just run cockatrice instead.

If I want to hang out with some friends we all have better and more fun things to do than MTG like going to the gym or clubbing. BTW, seeing the type of person who tends to go to card shops, none of them are worth getting to know.
