I played DF for years before RimWorld so I still default to underground bases for new challenges. I was originally going to be playing this run on a Scarlands map for the challenge but when I got there I found it was covered in buildings already and is more of a "reclaim a ruined city" type of map than a "survive savage wilderness" type map, so I changed to a map that's 50% glacial plain.

If anyone's interested, I think these were the settings:

rainfall: one tick up from default
population: one tick above minimum

coordinates: 29.64N, 13.98W

That's more because I hate seeing pawns tracking dirt through half the base to bring crops to the freezer.
The challenge is in keeping pawns from using the service entrance as the main entrance.
