Except we've already established that his way of life can and does lead to regrets. Simply being proactive doesn't stop you from making bad choices; in fact, it can increase the number of bad choices you make. The very idea that wishing you had done differently is a bad thing is insane to me in the first place, as that is part of the human experience. Sonic not being able to do that would make him so distanced from an actual person that I couldn't possibly be inspired by him or take any of his advice to heart.

Trusting your gut is ironically commonly known as bad advice, and in the cases it isn't bad advice, the "gut feeling" just ends up being subconscious cues from past experiences. The human experience constantly has us trying to combat our instincts with social conditioning.
