The Steam version is superior, but I don't know of any new tutorials that are as comfy as captnduck's. (maybe it's just nostalgia for me)

You can change the "pause on notification" settings so the game pauses, for example, when your miners discover a cavern.
DFHack is on Steam and updates ~15minutes after every DF patch. It adds some great QOL to the game.
