I avoid /xivg/-specific Discords, and really most XIV social / non-plugin Discords, because I don't have nearly enough time to keep up with them or get any value from them. Keeping up with DMs from individual friends is taxing enough.

It'll substantially increase queue volume, especially at first, but probably sustained long-term unless matches become really unfun (a risk that I think is grossly overstated).
It'll accelerate the meta and have an indirect impact on ranked (even though it's still solo queue) by allowing players to more easily explore pairs that work well in coordination together. LP teams already do this, but that's a small minority of players.
A side effect of that is that it will probably expose combinations that are a little overtuned and might accelerate balance fixes, but SE is historically pretty slow with those.
Undoubtedly some groups of 3+ will get into shenanigans like trying to sync queue healer+tank as one duo and DPS+DPS as another, making them more likely to get on the same team and have a coordinated 4-stack if they're not overlapping roles.
It may have an impact on /xivg/ queues. Claims of thread queues being toxic are wildly overblown, but I actually think there will be more complaints about "X and Y sweating up the queues together and ruining the games for everyone else."
On a humorous note, there will probably also be more scantily clad e-girl characters willing to dip their toes into PvP if they can play with a partner, so that's a bonus for my aesthetic tastes.
All in all I'm looking forward to it, even though I doubt I'll duo queue much myself.
