John Money, Weimar Germany and even in the 1920's Europe had ministrels and people who crossdressed. It's a concept that has mostly started there and spread internationally, even if you try to rewrite history and talk about native spirit-genders, etc. There is no other place that accepts you. There is no other culture where people are shamed for mistreating you. Many "brown" countries you can be killed for simply existing.
