A huge part of the cost of being born is that American's normalize it being done in a hospital. Birth is natural human function that the overwhelming majority of women can achieve just fine at home. In Europe, a mid-wife coming to attend a home birth (where most of the time they just act as a coach of sorts) is the default for maternal care. American shunts them into hospitals, where they are surrounded by people trained to find and see problems where there aren't any. The majority of women with planned hospital births with be given pitocen to induce labor unnecessarily. Their kids will have antibiotics smeared on their eyes as soon as they are born just in case their mom had STDs, and that's assuming an unplanned C-section wasn't done mostly out of convenience for the attending.

Correct and fatherhoodpilled. Remeber though, fed is what's best for baby. Some women absolutely drive themselves up the wall trying to BF when their bodies simply can't do it. If that's your wife, you must exert your authority as her husband and make sure your kid is growing. You can look into milk banks in your area to supplement her supply, or make your own home made formula using recipes from the the Weston A Price foundation. They're based on chicken broth, liver, a mixture of good oils, and lactose. Once your kid can handle solids at around 6 months, they will grow like a weed.
