Automatic makes sense if you want to run a hermit strategy (like the mermaid on Scar, or the dinosaur on Maya), or worried that you'll get stranded somewhere without humans to generate DPU (which might be a late game concern). A lot of these worlds just don't have the resources to send a team to the polar caps, or the abyssal pains of the deep sea.
And if you really want to discourage "guests", do something like set up in a jungle . . . and use your domain powers to turn into the arctic. Make all those wannabe demon slayers lug heavy arctic gear through the "green hell", before they even get to (your) defenses.

Yeah, I can't even imagine what the murder rate is on Maya. Dumping ground for the worst souls the gods can find? Place probably has commercial torture pits and worse.
(Anyone know what the official death rate is on Commoragh, in Warhammer 40k? The dark elves are probably our best reference.)
