Jade is the most interesting, realistic example of a sympathetic sociopath I've seen in a video game. Once upon a time he was two steps away from becoming a supervillain and he knows it
>that endgame skit where he says if he could he'd go back in time and kill himself
He's great. Basically this high-functioning kid that didn't understand the meaning of life and played with the world like it was a toy until shit hit the fan with Nebilim all because he felt the need to try and learn the Seventh Fonon because he couldn't not, then he spends his young adult life doubling down with fomicry going down an ever darker path until he figures enough of it out to realize it's not the correct path even if in part of his mind's eye he'd still very much want to do it. So when the game starts and he's a 35yo military career man, you see him suffering over his immense guilt and his autistically logical brain knowing he's a complete monster that can't ever be redeemed. Only, post-Akzeriuth Luke challenges that notion if only slightly. As he's learning about life, so is Jade in a way. Luke's glad fomicry exists because without it he wouldn't have been born. Jade fighting Dist is really him fighting with his past notions, and it culminates with his promise to renew fomicry but for good this time as he tells Anise right before the final battle, to try and help and the replicas that now live in the world. And finally there's this:
