Hm. Maybe the medium one envisions onto in fantasy is more temporal than one's (microscopic) body.
Or it's smaller.
Or it's less directed, precise etc..
That'd make some sense.
I mean, I can imagine letters with my eyes open, depending a bit on where I'm at. That's how I prove - to myself - that fantasy has to do with the faculty of vision, and that vision can be active.
Maybe "memory review" is also an application of that faculty.
