Ok, I’ve seen people online spread this bullshit a lot to justify modern ticket prices but where does the myth of artists being able to make a living of album sales back before streaming and yours being an advertisement for the album come from? Unless you were a huge artist like Michael Jackson or the Beatles you did not make a ton of money from album sales, the labels took most of it. The vast majority of artists have always made their money from touring and merch sales (something that it’s very common to sign away to major labels nowadays), even with the low ticket prices of the past. The largest reason for why modern live shows are expensive is the Ticketmaster/Livenation monopoly which deliberately exists to make touring for smaller artists harder. I am convinced this misinformation has been spread to make people accept that you need to pay 800 bucks to see some pop star lipsync to their album tracks because the idea that artists ever made much money from their album sales is absurd.

The problem is that the American culture war has pretty much killed off any sense of real discussion about issues like this. Either you’re gonna get a bunch of retards go on about how they “hate niggers and how the troon world order is pozzing them” while writing out their weirdly detailed blacked fetish fantasies, people who basically think like that but hide it under a layer of plausible deniability and post-irony or people who will accuse you of being a “racist chud” for caring about world building in your fantasy game.
