Fun fact: Barney was made by the same production company as Wishbone: Lyrick Studios. Those were the only two shows that they made inhouse, and they were even filmed on the same lot.

Richard Leach (who was the Barney creator's father-in-law) approved the project, thinking it would be the same commercial success that Barney was. While that didn't really happen, it was much more critically successful, and is remembered much more fondly, with almost no one hating it.

It's clear that if Lyrick didn't have the capital from the all the Barney revenue, they might not have had the confidence in greenlighting such an ambitious show.
