I never got into CvS2 on Fightcade so CFC2 was my first real exposure to good players on a consistent basis.

It's still fun but can get very frustrating if someone knows what they're doing and can read your behavior because of how wildly different the character strengths can be.

"Play who you like" is hard to justify over the long term since too many characters don't stack up well to each other.
